Assisting my clients to resolve their engineering design challenges

Kia ora and welcome to the online home of Murray Taylor.

I established ‘Design Applied’ after retiring from full-time employment at the end of 2021. Still very much engaged in all things mechanical and design, ‘Design Applied’ allows me to continue my professional life on a project-to-project basis, supporting people, businesses and product development across a number of different industries.

Based in Ōtautahi Christchurch, I collaborate with clients across Aotearoa New Zealand and beyond, utilising my love of team work and my passion for design and engineering applied in life.

Starting on the tools as a Fitting, Turning and Machining apprentice in 1968, my curiosity to better understand design principles soon led me to study for an NZCE (Mechanical) which opened the door to a work life that supported my passions. Some of my career highlights include; a university fluids laboratory, electric cable manufacturing, an R&D establishment, and electric heater manufacturing. More detail in my bio here.

In the meantime, how can I help you? Whether it’s technical discussion/review, concept sketch, second opinion, calculations or filling a knowledge gap, you can connect with me here: murray@designapplied.co.nz
